England were battered and wounded following their innings defeat at Lord’s, and many suspicions were raised over the ‘Bazball’ hypothesis, all of which should have dissipated today, due to skipper Stokes, who led from the front with bat and ball.

The series is level, and we’re all set for a nail-biter at The Oval. England’s attack put up a fantastic performance on the third day, with every member of the team performing admirably, including Jack Leach, who finished wicketless but gave just 26 runs in 23 overs.

Elgar’s choice to bat in the overcast conditions will be questioned a lot, and South Africa’s bowling strategies also at times seemed quite inconsistent. After England declared their first innings, South Africa fought valiantly in the second-day evening session to reach 23 for 0 at the end. But as soon as play resumed on the third day, that fortitude was abruptly broken, with their pivotal captain Dean Elgar dismissed only 15 minutes into the game.

Interestingly, In this Test series, there have been no fourth innings or fourth-day play till now.

With this loss South Africa have moved to the 2nd spot in the World Test Championship points table and Australia have gone to the top.
