Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik was named in India’s T20I squad for their upcoming 5-match home series against South Africa. The move was highly appreciated as Karthik had rightfully earned his place with excellent performances for RCB in the ongoing IPL 2022 season.
Karthik had been dropped from the T20I squad after a string of poor performances. He had set his sights on returning to the squad for the T20 World Cup last year but couldn’t make it due to a lack of opportunities.
He was bought for INR 5 crores by the RCB franchise in the mega auction and he has reposed their faith in him. So far, he has scored 287 runs at an average of 57.54 playing as a specialist finisher.
His strike rate of 191.33 has what made him a viable candidate to play in the lower order of the Indian team which currently lacks finishers apart from the likes of Hardik Pandya, who also makes a return to the squad.
This will mark Karthik’s return to the Indian team in any format after the 2019 ODI World Cup. His last T20I was against Australia back on February 27, 2019. Expectedly, the fans were happy to see him back in the Blue jersey.
India’s squad for South Africa series:(Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (vice-captain) (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Dinesh Karthik’s impending return:
It’s 2022 andis still making comebacks to the Indian squad. One of the most fascinating international careers of this century continues to wage on & unlike with some there’s no question of who’s writing his scripts. For, you know he’s doing it himself

So happy for‘s comeback into the Indian team.
His passion and work ethic is the reason for his unbelievable comeback. Seen him from close quarters how hard he has worked. Hope the good run continues and wish him the best!
Go well Dinesh na🤗❤️

Richly deserved return to the Indian team, well done 👏🏽
Good to see and back too!
India’s pace battery is now richer with two very talented bowlers, and Umran 🔥
Tripathi still doesn’t get a spot though.

Delighted to see Avesh, Arshdeep & Umran Malik in the squad; and to think that Khaleel & Mohsin could have made the cut too; Good that the skills of Dinesh Karthik & Bhuvi have been recognised. Going to be tough on KL Rahul & Rishabh. Thought they might go straight to the test.

Welcome back, Dinesh Karthik. Unfortunately dropped from the T20 setup for last 3 years but he worked hard, worked hard again and finally got the deserving call. The finisher DK is here.

Really happy for Dinesh Karthik is back in the India’s T20I set up and team. He deserves to be here because he performed incredibly well and the way he played in this IPL truly remarkable. Dinesh Karthik – The Finisher in India’s team.
— CricketMAN2 (@ImTanujSingh)
Arshdeep Singh and Dinesh Karthik – the much deserving ones who got an opportunity for the South African T20i series. Arshdeep has been magnificent for last few season, DK proved his worth this season and made a comeback beating the odds.

My beloved Dinesh Karthik will be making his comeback to the Indian team at the age of 37. His birthday is on the 1st of June. Many players stop taking domestic cricket seriously after being dropped in 🇮🇳 in the late 30s. But Anna worked hard and scored 100 in VH & in IPL he’s 🔥
— Abhishek Ojha (@vicharabhio)
Dinesh Karthik would have never played for India again under Kohli and Shastri. This is why I love the new era under Rohit and Dravid. Only performance matters.

Dinesh Karthik gets a comeback call which was due for a long time. It shouldn’t be surprising but the selectors having taken so long to get him back is surprisingly relieving

📍Dinesh Karthik, 36, could play in a T20I for India next month, after a gap of over three years.
He never gave up 💪

Can’t wait to see Umran Malik steaming in, donning anjersey 🚅
Dinesh Karthik is a phoenix rising from the ashes 🔥
Rahul Tripathi will soon kick down the door to get in 🚪💣

Dinesh Karthik truly deserved that chance. Thanks to BCCI. He’s becoming more and more deadly as a finisher in the shortest format of the game. Hoping, he will do wonders against South Africa in the upcoming T20I series 🤞🏼.
