The Haryana Police arrested the truck driver, who had mowed down DSP Surendra Singh while he was investigating illegal sand-mining, during an encounter. The accused had received a gun shot to his knee.

The Haryana Police on Tuesday apprehended one accused in connection with the murder of Deputy superintendent of Police Surendra Singh in Nuh.

Singh, who was investigating illegal stone-mining, was killed on Tuesday, when a truck he signalled to stop ran over him.

The accused has been identified as Ikkar, who was the driver of the truck, sources said. The police caught the accused after an encounter, during which Ikkar is reported to have received a gun shot to his knee.

The accused has been taken to Nalhar Medical college for treatment.

BACKGROUND

Singh, along with his team, had gone to conduct raids to stop illegal mining in Aravalli hills in Pachgaon area near Tauru when he spotted the truck at 11.50 am.

Tauru DSP Surendra Singh had signalled a dumper-truck to halt to check documents. But the driver sped on, running over him.

The officer’s gunman and his driver jumped aside to safety, but the DSP was hit. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead, police said.
