The Lok Sabha secretariat on Wednesday released a booklet terming the use of certain words like ‘jumlajeevi’, ‘baal buddhi’, ‘Covid spreader’, ‘Snoopgate’ and even commonly used words like ‘ashamed’, ‘abused’ and’betrayed’ as “unparliamentary” in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The government’s decision to designate certain words as unparliamentary has sparked off a debate. Now, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has jumped into the discussion and criticised the government’s move.

Rahul Gandhi shared an image on Twitter that described the word unparliamentary. The image described unparliamentary as, “Words used in discussion and debates which correctly describes the PM’s handling of the government, now banned from being spoken.”

The Congress leader captioned the image as “New Dictionary for New India.”

The Lok Sabha secretariat on Wednesday released a booklet terming the use of words like ‘jumlajeevi’, ‘baal buddhi’, ‘Covid spreader’ and ‘Snoopgate’ and even commonly used words like ‘ashamed’, ‘abused, ‘betrayed’, ‘corrupt’, ‘drama’, ‘hypocrisy’, and ‘incompetent’ as “unparliamentary” in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien also lashed out at the government’s decision to designate certain words as unparliamentary. The Trinamool Congress MP said that he would ensure that he uses such “basic” terms. He also challenged the Speaker to suspend him.

The diktat comes ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, slated to begin on July 18. Words like ‘anarchist’, ‘Shakuni’, ‘dictatorial’, ‘taanashah’, ‘taanashahi’, ‘Jaichand’, ‘vinash purush’, ‘Khalistani’ and ‘khoon se kheti’ would also be expunged if used during debates or otherwise in both the houses.
