Hours after West Bengal cabinet minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to the alleged teacher recruitment scam in the state, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) said the party had no links with the money seized from the minister’s aide, Arpita Mukherjee.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and West Bengal power minister Aroop Biswas said, “The party has no links to the person from whose house the money has been recovered.”

The power minister said the party had faith in the legal system of the country.

“If the allegations against Partha Chatterjee are proved to be true, the TMC government will take strict action against the minister.”

TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said Partha Chatterjee was framed as he chose to remain with TMC and refused to join the BJP.

“Partha Chatterjee was framed as he chose to remain in TMC and he rejected to be in BJP’s washing machine,” he said.

“BJP is indulging in the politics of conspiracy. Had Partha Chatterjee joined the BJP before the polls, he would have been clean using the BJP washing machine. If someone is being targeted because of conspiracy, we will surely oppose it,” he said.

Commenting on the TMC’s successful July 21 rally, he said, “The BJP is baffled by the success of the Martyrs’ Day crowd and now BJP is accusing us by showing pictures.”

“BJP is scared of the grand success of the TMC’s Shahid Dibas show of strength,” Biswas added.
