Bruno Fernandes has opened up on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United, saying that he expects the Portuguese superstar to remain at the club for next season.

United’s failure to reach the Champions League has put a big question mark over Ronaldo’s current stint at the club. The 37-year-old made his move back to Manchester last summer.

Despite the speculation around his teammate’s future, Fernandes told O Jogo that he hopes to see Ronaldo back on Monday at the training ground and a club like Manchester United will not be ready to lose the Portuguese superstar.

“Now we’re both on vacation and nobody bothers their friends on vacation. What I hope is that Cristiano will be there with me on Monday, that he’s one of those who will come back later because of the Seleção’s games and I’m not waiting for nothing more than that.”

“As far as I know there is nothing more than that, but everyone knows their future. I don’t believe the club is willing to lose a value like Cristiano,” said Fernandes.

The United midfielder also commented on a potential Sporting Lisbon return for Ronaldo. The 37-year-old caught the attention of United at the Portuguese club and Fernandes believes that the forward’s return will be a great moment for the Sporting fans. However, he said such a move can only happen if Ronaldo wants it.

“I don’t know, but for Sporting fans it would be a great moment; almost everyone would like that to happen.”

“But it depends on what Cristiano expects for his future. He has the ambition to continue playing for many years to come and we’ll see what he does will decide, I hope after the contract with United ends.”

“I think it’s a dream for most Sporting fans to see Cristiano wearing a Sporting shirt playing in Alvalade,” said Fernandes.
