R Madhavan (R. Madhavan) ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ ,Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Prestigious ‘Cannes Film Festival’ (Cannes Film Festival) Has been in the headlines for the past few days for appearing in. However, do you know that the film was not a part of the ‘official selection’ or even a part of the Main Festival? Here’s how Madhavan’s film has made its way into the ‘Marché du Film’ of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Because for a long time there was talk of this film being screened in Cannes.

Madhavan’s film was not Cannes’ official selection

Marche du Film, literally meaning ‘film market’, is the business counterpart of the prestigious festival. A filmmaker has to pay only one fee to have his film screened in ‘Marche du Film’. This is completely different from the official selection at Cannes, in which a dedicated selection committee selects the films that will be screened among thousands of entries. There are three sub-categories for such films – competition, out of competition, nothing special. So even though ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ was screened at Cannes, it did not go through any selection process through a jury.

A Twitter user brought this to light and tweeted, “Recently found out that you can rent a theater in Cannes originally and say your film premiered at Cannes. It is not part of the official Cannes jury selection. Madhavan’s rocketry is one such example.”

As soon as his tweet started garnering a lot of attention, he also clarified how he discovered it. He further tweeted that, “I watched the 10 minute standing ovation news and shared video for Rocketry. Most of the Indians were clapping in this – wondering why. Then I went to the Cannes website and looked at the selection of movies and found Rocketry nowhere.
