South films have given tough competition to Hindi movies in the box office business for a while now. However, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 recently ended Bollywood’s dry spell at BO. But the North vs South debate and Hindi vs South language controversy doesn’t seem to end. Today,, Karan Johar broke his silence on both topics and mentioned that we should not compare any language to each other.
KARAN ON NORTH VS SOUTH DEBATE
When the filmmaker was asked about the success of South films over Hindi movies, Karan said, “We can very proudly say that we are a part of the Indian cinema. RRR, KGF 2 and Pushpa have done a fantastic business at the box office. So, we can say that it is Indian cinema. We are proud of all those films and Indian cinema. Unhone Indian cinema ka darja badha diya hain. Prashanth Neel sahab, SS Rajamouli sir and Sukumar have shown us that humara standard bada hai aur hum aage jaa sakte hai.”
The filmmaker further added, “When we mentioned Hindi, it is a function of technicality. Last week, Gangubai Kathiawadi did a fantastic business and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has got a solid opening. And we hope that Jug Jugg Jeeyo also becomes a part of that list. We hope that films of every language work. And our films should also work. We don’t want any language to be compared to each other. We just want to say that we are proud of Indian cinema.”
