Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan opined India will be more affected by the absence of match-winner Jasprit Bumrah when they take on Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022.
The Asia Cup 2022 is set to get underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 27 when hosts Sri Lanka take on Afghanistan in Dubai.
Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel to miss Asia Cup for India
The most anticipated clash will be India vs Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the same venue where Babar Azam and his men posted a monumental win by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup last year.
This match will give a clue for both teams before they lock horns in Melbourne on October 24 in the T20 World Cup 2022.
India will be more affected by Jasprit’s absence: Younis Khan
India will miss the services of their core bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel – due to various injuries. Younis, who was the captain of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup-winning team in 2009, said India will affected by the Ahmedabad-born player’s unavailability.
“More than Bumrah’s absence being Pakistan’s advantage, I think India will be affected more. They’ll be missing one of their match-winners,” Younis told The Telegraph.
“If we analyse the lower-order batting and finishing abilities of batsmen in both teams, India have an edge. Pakistan have a solid top order, but their lower order has few finishers or hard-hitters as compared to India,” he added.
Pakistan will also be going into the important clash without their bowling spearhead Shaheen Afridi. The lanky pacer was ruled out of the continental event as he needs time to recover from his knee injury. Quetta Gladiators pacer Mohammad Hasnain was named replacement of Afridi for the continental tournament.
There is a high possibility of India and Pakistan facing each other three times in the upcoming continental tournament.
