IND vs PAK: The Transition That We Have Seen In India’s Approach Is Because Of Rohit Sharma – Saba Karim Ahead Of Asia Cup 2022

Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Saba Karim has said that the transition in India’s batting approach in the T20Is has been possible because of the skipper Rohit Sharma.

Karim said that Rohit adopting the attacking approach in the T20Is led to the batters playing in the same fashion. He added that the strike rate of the Indian batters has significantly improved because Rohit has led by example. Speaking on India News Sports, Karim said:

“The transition that we have seen in India’s approach, and that is because of Rohit Sharma. The way he has changed his mindset, it has given the message to other batters that they will also need to play in this fashion.

“This is both the team and Rohit’s vision. The strike rate of the batters has improved because Rohit has led by example. Earlier, he used to take his time initially and would accelerate in the latter stages. But now, his approach is to play with a strike rate of over 140 right from the first ball.”

In their tournament opener, India National Cricket Team will go head-to-head with arch-rivals Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, August 28. Speaking about the clash, Karim said:

“You cannot depend on just one player to win the match. Rohit Sharma’s contribution is going to be key, as a good start will do wonders for India. But it’s just a coincidence that India have only beaten Pakistan when Rohit has scored runs.

“There have been times when other batters have also performed well to help India win. He has the added responsibility of captaincy this time. The confidence of the team increases significantly when the skipper scores runs.”

Former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi said that the openers will have to provide India with a great start in the match against Pakistan to push the Men In Green on the back foot. He elaborated:

“Rohit Sharma can take the game away from the opposition with his batting. He comes up with impactful performances at the top. Getting off to a good start will be key in the game against Pakistan.

“It doesn’t matter if you are batting first or chasing, as Pakistan are heavily reliant on their seamers. Pakistan will be on the back foot if the Indian openers fire.”

Team India clearly have an upper hand in the Asia Cup rivalry against Pakistan. The Asian giants have collided a total of 14 times in the multi-nation tournament.

The Men In Blue have emerged victorious 8 times and Pakistan won in 5 matches with one match ending in no result in the year 1997. Also, India are the most successful team in the Asia Cup history with 7 title victories and Pakistan have won only 2 championships.
