IND vs ENG: “You Could Have A Quadrangular Series With Two Indian Teams And Two English Teams” – Michael Vaughan On Squad Depth In Modern-day Cricket

Michael Vaughan, a former England captain, believes that India and England have such a strong bench that they might field two sides at once. On Thursday, July 7 in Southampton, the first T20I between India and England ended with a 50-run victory for Rohit Sharma’s team.

For the remaining matches of the series, Team India has a large pool of veteran players at their disposal. Due to the T20I series starting just two days after the completion of the five-day match at Edgbaston, the players participating in the fifth Test match that had to be rescheduled were allowed a break.

The second-string team has recently stepped up, leaving The Men in Blue with a selection dilemma after a stunning victory in the first T20I. Michael Vaughan asserted on Cricbuzz that the team is missing out on way too many players:

“They have got too many players, too many. You could have a quadrangular series with two Indian teams and two English teams.”

Regarding England’s team composition for the crucial second T20I, Vaughan stated:

“Reece Topley may miss out for Richard Gleeson in the second T20I. You’ve got a left-armer in Sam Curran. I don’t think England are quite at that stage where they are thinking we have to play our best XI.”

On Saturday, July 9 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, the second Twenty20 International of the series will pit Team India against England. In the three-match T20I series, the guests led 1-0.

In all three formats, England is hosting other nations throughout this hectic summer at home. Despite this, they will also be focused on the T20 World Cup in Australia and want to strengthen their team.

Ben Stokes And Jonny Bairstow Will Walk Back Into England Squad For T20 World Cup: Michael Vaughan

After Eoin Morgan retired from international cricket, the host nation’s white-ball cricket squad is about to enter a new era. In yesterday’s loss to India, Jos Buttler served as the team’s full-time captain for the first time.

Michael Vaughan went on to say that there are several players that might be selected for the 2022 T20 World Cup:

“Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow will walk back into the squad for the T20 World Cup. Mark Wood as well, he will be back around. There are many players. Don’t know whether Jofra Archer, Olly Stone and Chris Woakes would be fit in time.”
