While the Indian domestic circuit has long been regarded for producing a large number of top-notch spinners, things have changed recently as several speed merchants have emerged and proven their mettle against top-tier batsmen.

At the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai, under the guidance of great Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath, one of the best pacers to ever play the game, several pacers refined their craft.

McGrath, who took over as the academy’s director after Dennis Lillee retired, said he was pleased to see players like Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan succeed while representing India after picking up the skills necessary at the academy.

I Have Enjoyed My Time At The MRF Academy: Glenn McGrath

“To see 29 of our boys and ex-boys playing in the recent IPL was a proud moment. Prasidh and Avesh representing India in limited overs cricket, I am really proud of them…proud of all the boys,” McGrath told reporters during an interaction.

Commenting on his journey at the academy, he added, “It has been 10 years (laughs), the last 2 have been a little dodgy. It has been great. I have enjoyed it. Our goal was to continue what Dennis (Lillee) had done.

“I knew I couldn’t just come in and fill those shoes. He is the best pace bowling coach in my opinion. It is about teaching the young guys, the next generation, to become self-sufficient.”

Three young bowlers, Khan, Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh, made it onto the Indian team after making an impact in both domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The former Australian bowler discussed his thoughts on the various game formats, saying that while Test cricket was the ideal format for him, it was still difficult to make ODIs exciting.
