A day after the India women’s cricket team nearly missed winning a historic gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, published an emotional social media post.
The India women were in control of the contest for the majority of the chase but fell short by 9 runs in the final against Australia at Edgbaston on Sunday, earning India’s first-ever silver medal in cricket at a multi-sport competition.
Jemimah praised the girls’ “grit, tenacity, and character” throughout the competition.
We Won’t Stop Until We Turn Silver Into Gold: Jemimah Rodrigues
“This team is different. The grit, determination and character shown throughout this tournament were something else. There were many special moments, but I guess at the same time cricket never stops teaching us.
I know we didn’t get the gold, but is it okay to say that I’m still proud of this team? We won’t stop until we turn this Silver into Gold! “Sath Mein Girenge Sath Mein Uthenge Hum Hai Team India Hum Sath Mein Chalenge!,” Jemimah, who scored 33 in the final, wrote on Instagram and Twitter.
India got back in the game and even had the upper hand with the fantastic 96-run third-wicket partnership between Jemimah and captain Harmanpreet Kaur despite losing openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma early in the chase. But poor shot choices from both of India’s senior cricketers immediately drew them back into the match.
India appeared to be on track to win the title with 50 needed off the final six overs and eight wickets in hand, but lost the final five wickets for 13 runs.
