Justin Langer stepped down from Australia’s head coach role this year

Langer refused to sign Cricket Australia’s short-term extension offer after being involved as the head coach of the national team for nearly four years. In February, the 51-year-old stepped down from the head coach’s post even before his tenure was supposed to be complete.

Nothing is finalised with Justin Langer yet: Ricky Ponting on Hobart Hurricanes coach post

Hobart Hurricanes are in search of a head coach since Adam Griffith stepped down from the role at the conclusion of last season. Ponting believes Langer wants to continue coaching but there is no formal discussion held between the two regarding the Hurricanes’ vacancy.

He (Justin Langer) definitely wants to coach again. I think he’s got a bit more thinking to do as far as a commitment like this is concerned through the summer, but every chat I’ve had with him so far, he wants to coach again,” Ponting said during a press conference in Hobart on Thursday.

“He’s probably the one that I’ve spoken to the most about it so far. We’ve been having a bit of dialogue through the last probably six or seven months to be honest.

“Nothing is finalised with Justin yet. But I’ll stay on him because I’ve got a pretty good understanding and feeling of what we need down here at the Hurricanes as far as that head coaching position is concerned,” Ponting added.

There were reports that mentioned Langer was considered for the England men’s cricket Test head coach role as Chris Silverwood’s successor. But the former Australian player denied holding any such conversations with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
