A boy, who was participating in fire walking ritual in Puducherry, slipped and fell on the ember bed. A video of the incident shows the devotees rushing to pull the man to safety before he could sustain severe injuries.

The annual festival is held at Draupathi Amman temple in Nettapakkam. Scores of people participate in the ceremony, where they show their devotion by walking on the fire bed. Through the ritual, devotees ask for fulfillment of their wishes.

On Friday, as hundreds of devotees gathered at the spot to perform the ritual, a boy, who was walking along with his father, tripped and fell on the bed of embers, shocking the crowd. Fortunately, devotees were able to pull him out before he could sustain severe burn injuries.

The video of the incident has been shared multiple times on social media.

This is the second such incident of a devotee falling into a fire pit which has occurred in the state in the past month. Earlier, a devotee, who was carrying his grandchild, fell on the fire bed while firewalking and sustained severe injuries near Tiruchirappalli.
