Mohammed Azharuddin, a former captain of India, appears to have spoken out in favour of Virat Kohli. He has urged everyone to stop using phrases like “out of form” because they put a lot of pressure on athletes.

In advance of the upcoming Asia Cup, there has been a lot of talk about Kohli. While the majority believe the ace batter is just short of runs, many believe he is not in good form.

With his last appearance coming during India’s tour of England in July, Kohli, 33, was rested for recent tours of Zimbabwe and the West Indies.

Even though the right-hander has displayed some flashes of brilliance, he still needs runs to keep his spot in the starting lineup.

Let Them Just Go Ahead And Play Without Speculations: Mohammed Azharuddin

For the Delhi-born batter, India’s remaining matches are crucial because of the upcoming T20 World Cup. This is particularly true given the fierce competition for his spot in the XI.

Although he did not specifically mention Virat Kohli, it is clear from the context that the 59-year-old is making a reference to the star batter. Tweeted Azharuddin: “‘Out of form’ is a phrase that puts unprecedented amount of pressure on a player. Let them just go ahead and play with no speculations.”

During the net session in Dubai, the former India captain tried to bat against the spinners right away. He left the track to lob high shots over Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja’s heads. He reportedly batted for about two and a half hours after reporting first for the net session.

On August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium, the Indian team will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan (Sunday).
